Mission als Zeugnis des Glaubens

Viele Christen wissen heute mit dem Missionsgedanken nicht viel anzufangen. Verständnis hat man weitgehend noch für Entwicklungshilfe. Aber wenn Entwicklung im materiellen und intellektuellen Bereich ein Anliegen der Nächstenliebe ist, warum nicht auch Entwicklung im religiösen Bereich? Konkret wachsen die Kirche und der christliche Glaube in der Welt noch resolut, am stärksten in Afrika, doch auch in anderen Ländern der Welt. Missionarische Hilfe dazu ist angefragt und tut not. Es gibt zwar in großen Bereichen des christlichen Abendlandes auch das Anliegen einer Neuevangelisierung. Aber das ist nicht identisch mit dem der Mission und kann die Kirche und ihre Gläubigen nicht von dem Auftrag Christi zur Verkündigung des Glaubens unter allen Völkern dispensieren.


For many Christians today the idea of mission no longer makes sense. At most, development aid is understood and accepted. But if fostering development in the material or academic sectors is an expression of charity, why not development in the religious field? In actual fact, the Church and Christianity are still growing apace, especially in Africa, but also in some other parts of the world. Here the help of missionaries is needed. At the same time, large sectors of the Christian West stand in great need of a re-evangelization. This is not identical with mission, though, nor does it grant dispensation from the duty the Church and the faithful have to obey the mandate of Jesus Christ to propagate the faith among all nations.


Hoy en día muchos cristianos no saben que hacer con la idea de la misión. Comprenden ampliamente la ayuda para el desarrollo. Pero si el desarrollo en la esfera material e intelectual encuentra el interés sobre la base del amor al prójimo, ¿por qué no el desarrollo en la esfera religiosa? En concreto, la Iglesia y la fe cristiana en el mundo siguen creciendo vigorosamente, especialmente en el Africa, pero también en otros países del mundo. Para ello se espera y se necesita ayuda misional. Es cierto que en esferas amplias del occidente cristiano se está promoviendo la nueva evangelización. Pero esta no es idéntica con la misión y no puede dispensar a la Iglesia y a sus fieles del mandato de Cristo de anunciar la fe a todos los pueblos.
