Formation for Interculturality

Education for interculturality has ever been one of the most important concerns in the basic formation of the SVDs. This article aims at presenting an overview of efforts made towards inculturation and the norms and principles that are guiding them. Although the process of inculturation is more spoken about in the context of a missionary in a foreign culture, the preparation for it during the basic formation is equally or even more important. We shall deal with the topic with special reference to the SVD formation and to its intercultural, international formation communities and the specific programs of formation for interculturality.


Erziehung zu Interkulturalität ist immer eines der wichtigsten Anliegen in der Ausbildung der Steyler Missionare gewesen. Dieser Artikel will einen Überblick über die Bemühungen geben, die in bezug auf Inkulturation und die Normen und Prinzipien, die sie leiten, gemacht worden sind. Obwohl über den Prozeß der Inkulturation mehr im Zusammenhang mit einem Missionar in einer fremden Kultur gesprochen wird, ist die Vorbereitung darauf während der Ausbildung genauso wichtig oder sogar noch wichtiger. Wir behandeln das Thema unter spezieller Rücksicht der SVD-Ausbildung und ihrer interkulturellen, internationalen Ausbildungsgemeinschaften und den speziellen Programmen für Ausbildung zur Interkulturalität.


La educación para la interculturalidad siempre ha sido una de las mayores preocupaciones de la formación básica de los misioneros SVD. Este artículo quiere presentar una vista general en cuanto a los esfuerzos relacionados con la inculturación y las normas y los principios que los guian. Si bien se habla sobre el proceso de la inculturación mayormente en el contexto de un misionero en una cultura ajena, la preparación para esto durante la formación básica es igualmente o incluso más importante. Tratamos el tema teniendo especialmente presente la formación de los verbitas y sus comunidades de formación intercultural e internacional, como también sus programas específicas de formación intercultural.
