The Spirit of God and the Script of Mission: A Biblical Reflection

The Gospel of Luke places special emphasis on the role the Holy Spirit plays as the initiator of Jesus' mission. Following the same pattern, the Acts of the Apostles would insist that the early Christian community initiated its mission of evangelization under the direct supervision of the same Spirit. For the author of Luke-Acts, then, the script of Christian mission is authored by the Spirit of God. The present discussion seeks to establish this fact by a detailed reflection on two biblical passages: one each from the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. Jesus' mission was launched at the synagogue at Nazareth (Lk 4:16-30) and the Church's mission begins with the event of the Pentecost (Acts 2:1-13).


Das Lukasevangelium betont die Rolle, die der Hl. Geist als Initiator der Mission Jesu spielt. Ebenso unterstreicht die Apostelgeschichte, dass die frühchristliche Gemeinde ihre Mission unter der direkten Führung des Hl. Geistes begann. Für den Verfasser von Lukasevangelium und Apostelgeschichte wird die Missionsaufgabe also durch den Geist Gottes autorisiert. Der vorliegende Beitrag versucht, diese Tatsache durch eine ausführliche Betrachtung von zwei Stellen in Lukasevangelium und Apostelgeschichte zu untermauern: Jesu Mission begann in der Synagoge von Nazareth (Lk 4,16-30) und die Mission der Kirche beginnt mit Pfingsten (Apg 2,1-13).


El Evangelio de san Lucas hace resaltar el rol del Espíritu Santo como iniciador de la misión de Jesús. Al mismo tiempo los Hechos de los Apóstoles subrayan que la comunidad cristiana primitiva empezó su misión bajo la conducción directa del Espíritu Santo. Por ende para el autor del Evangelio de Lucas y de los Hechos la actividad misionera es autorizada por el Espíritu Santo. El artículo presente trata de fundamentar este hecho mediante una consideración detallada de dos pasajes del Evangelio de Lucas y de los Hechos: La misión de Jesús empezó en la sinagoga de Nazaret (Lc 4,16-30), y la misión de la iglesia comienza en el día de Pentecostés (Hechos 2,1-13).
