The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy of Vatican II and subsequent liturgical documents have affected the entire Church and its mission in a multitude of ways that were, for the most part, unimaginable before 1963. This article attempts to focus the broad issue under one rubric: the “vernacularization” of the liturgy. In every aspect, from language to architecture, the liturgy had to be rendered in the vernacular. Only then would the liturgy become, as it were, a household word and an integral part of the life of a people gathered to worship in spirit and truth.
Die Konstitution über die heilige Liturgie des Zweiten Vatikanums und daran anschließende Dokumente hatten für die gesamte Kirche und ihre Mission vielerlei Folgen, von denen die meisten vor 1963 völlig unvorstellbar gewesen wären. Dieser Artikel betrachtet das Thema unter einem bestimmten Schlagwort, nämlich der „Übersetzung“ in einheimische Formen. Jeder Aspekt der Liturgie, von der Sprache bis zur Architektur, musste in die Landessprache und -kultur übertragen werden, denn nur dann konnte die Liturgie wirklich bei den Menschen ankommen, die sich versammelten zum Gebet im Geist und in der Wahrheit, und ein Teil ihres Lebens werden.
La Constitución sobre la liturgia sagrada del Vaticano Segundo y los documentos siguientes tuvieron para la iglesia entera y sus misiones varias consecuencias que, en su mayoría, hubieran sido inimaginables antes de 1963. Este artículo contempla el tema bajo el aspecto de la “vernaculización”. Cada aspecto de la liturgia, desde el lenguaje hasta la estructura, tuvo que ser trasladado al idioma y a la cultura de cada país, porque tan sólo así la liturgia pudo verdaderamente tocar a los hombres que se reunían para la oración en el Espíritu y la Verdad, y llegar a ser parte de su vida.
