The 2000 General Chapter was asked to answer the question, “What is SVD mission today?” Based on a wide consultation process that stretched over two years, the Chapter articulated our mission today in three main points: Witness – Dialogue – Dimensions. Some may find this answer to be too abstract, others might emphasize the characteristic dimensions in a way that it is difficult to see their missionary import. This article turns to Jesus’ example of outreach to the Samaritan woman at the well of Jacob to give a practical illustration of this understanding of mission. It especially encourages the reader to understand the characteristic dimensions in the wider context of witness and prophetic dialogue.
Das Generalkapitel 2000 sollte die Frage beantworten, was SVD-Mission heute ist. Basierend auf einem umfassenden Beratungsprozess, der sich über zwei Jahre hinzog, formulierte das Kapitel für unsere Mission heute folgende drei Stichworte: Zeugnis – Dialog – Dimensionen. Einige mögen diese Antwort zu abstrakt finden, andere wiederum könnten die SVD-charakteristischen Dimensionen derart überbetonen, dass es schwierig ist, ihre missionarische Bedeutung zu sehen. Dieser Artikel gibt anhand Jesu Zuwendung zur Samariterin am Jakobsbrunnen ein praktisches Beispiel für dieses Verständnis von Mission. Er möchte den Leser insbesondere dazu anregen, die charakteristischen Dimensionen im weiteren Kontext von Zeugnis und prophetischem Dialog zu verstehen.
El Capítulo General del año 2000 debía contestar la pregunta, cuál es la misión de la SVD hoy. Sobre la base de un amplio proceso consultivo, que se extendió por dos años, el Capítulo formuló para nuestra misión hoy tres puntos: Testimonio – Diálogo – Dimensiones. Algunos encontrarán esta respuesta demasiado abstracta, otros acentúan las dimensiones características de tal forma que es difícil reconocer su importancia misional. Este artículo presenta la manera cómo Jesús se dedicó a la samaritana junto al pozo de Jacob, como ejemplo práctico de este entendimiento de misión. Ante todo quiere motivar al lector a entender las dimensiones características en el horizonte más amplio de testimonio y diálogo profético.
