Inkulturation ist für die Kirche seit ihren Anfängen ein wichtiges Anliegen. Besonders nach dem Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil wurde viel theologische Literatur zu diesem Thema verfasst, es existiert aber eine tiefe Kluft zwischen der akademischen Theorie und der Praxis an der Basis.
Inculturation has been an important issue for the Church right from its infancy. Especially after Vatican II, this topic has generated quite a lot of theological literature. There is much clarity in thinking and articulation at the academic level, but a great gap between theory and practice at the grass-root level. Five cultural shocks the author encountered during his pastoral life at a mission station highlight this issue. With the passage of time this gap can be bridged through the process of a creative encounter between the Word and the Culture.

Aber es existiert eine tiefe Kluft zwischen der akademischen Theorie und der Praxis an der Basis. Fünf Kulturschocks, die der Autor während seiner Tätigkeit auf einer Missionsstation erlebte, verdeutlichen diese Tatsache. Durch den Prozess eines kreativen Austauschs zwischen dem Wort und der Kultur kann die Kluft im Laufe der Zeit überbrückt werden.
La inculturación ha sido un tópico importante para la iglesia desde su mismo inicio. Especialmente desde el II. Vaticano, este tema ha generado muchísima literatura teológica. Se constata mucha claridad en el pensamiento y la articulación a nivel académico, pero también una brecha entre la teoría y la práctica en la base. Los cinco choques culturales que el autor experimentó a lo largo de su vida pastoral en una estación de misión ilustran este tema. Con el paso del tiempo, esta brecha puede superarse por un proceso de encuentro creativo entre la Palabra y la cultura.
L’inculturation a représenté dès le départ une importante question pour l’Église. Après Vatican II, particulièrement, ce sujet a généré une abondante littérature théologique. Les choses sont très claires au niveau de la pensée et de l’expression académique, mais il y a un écart important entre la théorie et la pratique sur le terrain. Cinq chocs culturels vécus par l’auteur au cours de sa vie pastorale en mission illustrent cette question. Avec le temps, ce fossé peut être comblé dans une rencontre créative entre la Parole et la Culture.
