Es besteht eine große Notwendigkeit, das Bild des missionarischen Dienstes des SVD-Bruders in Antwort auf die SVD-Vision von Mission heute und auf die Herausforderungen unserer Zeit neu zu entwerfen.
Vom 29. Juni bis zum 12. Juli 2009 hat die zweite Generalversammlung zur Brüderberufung in der SVD in Cebu City, Philippinen, als Antwort auf die Empfehlung des letzten SVD-Generalkapitels von 2006 stattgefunden. Eines ihrer Ziele war, jene Themen aufzugreifen, mit denen sich das Generalkapitel nicht gebührend befassen konnte – wie Identität, Formation und berufliche Ausbildung von Brüdern.
Es besteht eine große Notwendigkeit, das Bild des missionarischen Dienstes des SVD-Bruders in Antwort auf die SVD-Vision von Mission heute und auf die Herausforderungen unserer Zeit neu zu entwerfen. Zu den letzteren gehören die Auswirkungen des global-demographischen Rückgangs von Ordensberufungen, das Auftreten eines postmodernen Ethos aufgrund der Ausbreitung einer konsumorientierten Kultur, die Lockerung der Familienbande hauptsächlich aufgrund der rapiden Verstädterung und anderes mehr.
Nachdem die gesellschaftlichen, kirchlichen und ordensinternen Faktoren, welche den Schwund von Berufungen für die SVD verursacht haben, mit Hilfe der Zusammenfassungen der Zonenkoordinatoren und des Vorbereitungsteams ausgewertet worden waren, wurde die Frage gestellt: Wie reagieren wir auf diese Notwendigkeit, das Bild des missionarischen Dienstes des SVD-Bruders neu zu entwerfen (Abschlusserklärung der Versammlung). Des Weiteren folgt die Abschlusserklärung einigen Punkten des 16. SVD-Generalkapitels: Spiritualität, Gemeinschaft, Leitung und Ausbildung. Das Dokument erinnert an das SVD-Charisma, daran, was es heißt, Ordensmissionare zu sein und an der Mission Gottes teilzunehmen.
Während eines Vortrags im Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay City, Philippinen, unterstrich P. Generalsuperior Antonio Pernia, dass Theologie beides zu sein habe, fides quaerens intellectum (Glaube, der Verstehen sucht) und fides quaerens linguam (Glaube, der danach sucht, ausgedrückt zu werden). Fides quaerens linguam unterstreicht die missionarische Dimension der Theologie. Der Glaube an Jesus Christus muss verkündet werden und durch die Verkündigung gelangen wir zu einem tieferen Verständnis des Glaubens. Auch die Notwendigkeit einer in die Sprache und Kultur der Menschen inkulturierten Theologie wird unterstrichen. Inkulturation setzt immer ein authentisches Verständnis des Glaubens voraus. Theologie findet heute in einer Vielzahl pluraler Kontexte statt. Das stellt eine Herausforderung zum Dialog dar – mit Kontexten, mit anderen Christen, Religionen, Kulturen usw. Aus all dem ergibt sich, dass die heutige Missionswissenschaft in ihrem jeweiligen Kontext zu einem inkulturierten Verständnis des Glaubens beizutragen hat.
So will auch diese Ausgabe des Verbum SVD ein Beitrag zur fides quaerens linguam sein. Artikel über die Brüderversammlung, zum SVD-Charisma und zur SVD-Ausbildung, über die Rolle des Ordenslebens heute und über den heiligen Paulus laden dazu ein, nach immer neuen Wegen zu suchen, den Glauben an Jesus Christus zum Ausdruck zu bringen.
From June 29 to July 12, 2009 the Second Assembly on the Brother Vocation in the SVD took place in Cebu City, Philippines, in response to a recommendation of the last General Chapter of 2006. One of its objectives was to deal with the issues which the capitulars felt the chapter could not deal with adequately – such as identity, formation and the professional training of Brothers.
There is a great need to re-image the SVD Brother’s mission in response to the challenges of our time (the impact of the global demographic decline of religious vocations, the emergence of a postmodern ethos due to the spread of a consumerist culture, the fragmentation of family ties mainly due to rapid urbanization, etc.) and our vision of mission today. After evaluating secular, ecclesial and congregational factors that have caused the dwindling of vocations for the SVD the assembly tried to focus on how to respond to this need to re-image the SVD Brother’s mission. The final document presents the main topics discussed at the assembly following the 16. General Chapter: Spirituality, Community, Leadership and Formation. The document shows that the assembly dealt with the Brother vocation and the role of brothers in SVD mission today. So the document is a reminder of the SVD charism – being religious missionaries and an invitation to reflect anew on the call to participate in God’s mission.
On the occasion of the centennial celebrations of SVD presence in the Philippines, Fr. Superior General Antonio Pernia gave a talk in the Divine Word Seminary Tagaytay about the centennial and the Divine Word Seminary. The SVD Asia-Pacific Zone has decided to establish a Missiological Institute based in Tagaytay. “Looking at both, developments in the Church and in the SVD, there is a growing need for theological research and reflection from the perspective of different contexts. It is therefore extremely important that in the global South there be reliable institutes of research and reflection and world-class centers of study and teaching in the area of philosophy and theology… The Divine Word School of Theology should see itself as one such institute and center in the global South… As such, the Divine Word Seminary Tagaytay must be both rooted in the classical tradition of theology and responsive to the missionary exigencies of the concrete context. In this sense, theology at the Divine Word Seminary Tagaytay must be both, fides quaerens intellectum (faith seeking understanding) and fides quaerens linguam (faith seeking expression).”
Fides quaerens linguam stresses the missionary dimension of theology. Faith in Jesus Christ needs to be proclaimed, and in the very act of sharing it with others, we come to understand it more deeply. Fides quaerens linguam also underlines the need for theology to be inculturated in the language and culture of a people. Such inculturation requires an authentic understanding of faith. Finally, fides quaerens linguam indicates the plurality of contexts in which theology needs to be done today. This is a challenge to dialogue – with local contexts, Christians, religions, etc.
This issue of Verbum SVD, too, wants to be a contribution to fides quaerens linguam – inviting to look for ever new ways to give expres-sion to the message of Jesus Christ through articles about the Brother assembly, about SVD charism and formation, about the role of religious in today’s world and about St. Paul.
