Im Jahr 1968 begann der Autor seine Tätigkeit, damals als Steyler Missionar, und versuchte, die sozialen Herausforderungen auf den Philippinen mit seiner katholischen Tradition zu vereinbaren. Über die Jahre hat sich bei ihm eine Sichtweise herausgearbeitet, die er als "Glaube, der das Leben verändert" bezeichnet.
Vor 50 Jahren nahm der Autor seinen Dienst als Steyler Priester auf und versuchte, seine katholische Tradition und die Herausforderungen des sozialen Kontexts der Philippinen in Einklang zu bringen. Sein Engagement bei einer Kleinbauernorganisation mit der für sie notwendigen Landreform ermöglichte ihm einen Zugang, brachte aber auch neue Konflikte. Durch lange Kämpfe und Opfer kam der Autor zu Glaubensüberzeugungen, die sich an den evangelischen Werten von Gerechtigkeit und Frieden ausrichten. Er erklärt seine Sichtweise als „Glaube, der das Leben verändert“.
Fifty years ago the author took up his ministry as an SVD priest and tried to come to terms with his Catholic tradition and the challenges of the social context in the Philippines. His engagement with a farmers’ organization and their needed land reform provided a focus but also new conflicts. Through battles and sacrifices, the author arrived at faith convictions inspired by gospel values of justice and peace. He explains his perspectives as “faith transforming life.”
Hace cincuenta años, el autor se inició como sacerdote verbita y buscaba reconciliar su tradición católica con las exigencias del contexto social en las Filipinas. El compromiso con una organización de campesinos y su exigencia de una reforma agraria le ofreció un enfoque al igual que nuevos conflictos. Il y a cinquante ans, l’auteur commençait son ministère comme prêtre du Verbe divin et essayait de concilier sa tradition catholique et les défis du contexte social aux Philippines. Son engagement auprès d’une organisation de paysans pour la nécessaire réforme de la terre lui donna un objectif, mais fut la cause de nouveaux conflits. À travers combats et sacrifices, l’auteur en arriva à des convictions de foi inspirées des valeurs évangéliques de justice et de paix.
