The history of the Philippines is inextricably entangled with the first world circumnavigation by Magellan. It has produced major shifts in understanding the world and cosmos. With the European travellers, also the Christian faith somehow arrived in this part of the world. The author highlights the figure of “Enrique,” a Southeast-Asian slave with the Magellan party who played an important role in connecting the Europeans and Filipinos and appears at the suspicious “contact zone” between the different groups as the interpreter and real world traveller.

Ella ha producido importantes cambios en la comprensión del mundo y del cosmos. Con los viajeros europeos, también la fe cristiana llegó de alguna manera a esta parte del mundo. El autor destaca la figura de “Enrique”, un esclavo del sureste asiático en el grupo de Magallanes quien desempeñó un importante papel en conectar los europeos y los filipinos y quien aparece en la sospechosa “zona de contacto” entre los distintos grupos como intérprete y verdadero viajero del mundo.
